This is Chris Downs, the owner of Varieties, I'd like to respond to the negative comment on the bar. I'd also like to thank the person that gave it. I am a new bar owner and with this being the first bar I've owned I value everyones opinion. There are going to be adjustments made as it grows and changes and I will lean heavily on everyone to help me make it a place that they will truly enjoy coming. With the comment in question I have decided to extend the happy hour until 7pm and hope that the person that wrote it will come back and give us another shot. I'm not sure what happened with the orange juice, but it is orange juice and not Tang. As far as the straight bartender, he is actually a family member of mine and I thought it would be good to have some new faces around. It helps that he's cute as hell too. I am truly trying to make this a place for everyone and if David32 would like to come into the bar again, I'll buy him a drink and discuss what his likes and dislikes are with the bar and maybe we can change his opinion. Thanks to all of you for the great comments and please let me know any suggestions that you may have for us as we grow, its not just my bar, it's yours too. Chris

Now, this is my kind of bar. Clean, nice staff and good drink prices. Have a very hometown atmosphere. People are nice and I had a great time. The upstairs bar was very nice and comfortable. No fake people come to this bar. A definite "must see" when in KC.

I would disagree with the earlier post. Visted this new bar here in KC, Saturday night for the Grand Opening. This bar is a great addition to the KC Gay bar scene. The look of the bar and the staff are very friendly. I actually think it's nice to see new faces in the bar.... straight or gay. A bit tired of seeing the same old same old gay bartenders. New faces are nice. As the other person stated, the Happy Hour prices do end at 6:00, but the regular drink prices are very resonable. This bar is clean, fresh and newly updated unlike the other bars in the city that have a tendency to have a problem with keeping them clean. I love the bar and I highly suggest that you check it out and form your own opinion.

This is a new bar that just opened in Kansas City in midtown. I went in for happy hour at 5:30 and had a drink and ordered another one. Happy Hour is over at 6PM! Who ends a happy hour at 6pm? Drinks were horrible. The orange juice was either TANG or mildewed. UGH! Bartender was a straight dude who said that he didn't mind waiting on gays. Plenty of other gay bars in KC to go to so I won't be back. Most likely they will not be in business long.

Great bar with an awesome atmosphere. Drink special and live acts during the week. Friendly and customer service oriented staff.
