Ken's Place (Closed Permanently)

(7 Ratings)
Guesthouse for budget travelers
This is not a hotel; it is a house, split up to rent separate rooms, which have themes. The entire third floor is in a jungle motif with private bath, several beds, kitchen, and...how do we say this?...some sex-related items hanging from the ceiling that might make you blush. The owner's dogs live on-property, so hopefully you're an animal lover.

Friendly and great services

I have been a guest at Ken's on numerous dates throughout the years and I have always been more than pleased with each and every stay. The owner is a superb and very nice man and the location is great as well as the rates...very reasonable. I recommend.

Good weekend

We are a lesbian couple and we stayed at Ken's place this weekend. It was nice, Ken is very polite and offered to cook for us all weekend. I would recommend Ken's place to all my friends. The rooms were beautiful, the whole house if beautiful.

Just Horrible

The whole house reaked of cigarette smoke, and the "staff" were very unprofessional. Had to sleep with the door open just so we could breathe.

Lower your expectations

Ken's Place isn't so much a B&B as it is a place to crash (think very gay frat house for smokers) while in KC. It's in mid-town, so expect the usual inner-city noises as well as the wide range of neat/off-beat shops and eateries. What one should not expect is an effusive (or even friendly)welcome nor a particular interest in one's comfort. Ken seems nice enough, just "reserved" I guess. The monster dog, Duke, is a sweetie and likes to hang out on the front porch (great for getting coffee and paper ELSEWHERE and spending an hour enjoying the street scape). Bring your own soap if you don't want to keep asking for things (like a glass, like what's for breakfast--oh anything you want, I'll just walk over to the store and get it). There is a For Sale sign in the front yard, so definitely call first.
