Legal Issues for LGBTQ Students and Educators

The program for the spring quarter will be a discussion of legal issues facing LGBTQ students and for educators who work with LGBTQ students. Jeffrey Mittman, executive director of the ACLU of Missouri. We wil have a short overview of legal protections for LGBTQ students and educators advocating for them, along with common issues with which the ACLU helps students and educators in this area. A few of specific topics are: • Equal Access Act and starting / operating GSAs • Protections for and rights of transgender and gender non-conforming students • Protections and recourse for educators who advocate for LGBTQ students who face resistance from superiors.
